2010 archive release from the legend of Latin Soul containing rare studio recordings from 1976. Bataan's recordings in the late '60s for Fania were the very definition of that genre, while his early '70s recordings for the fledgling Salsoul label are always in demand by DJs and collectors alike. His version of Gil Scott-Heron's 'The Bottle' (called 'La Botella') from the LP Afrofillipino" is a club classic. Later in the decade he returned to Salsoul and had one of the first international Rap hits with 'Rap-o-Clap-o'. BGP.
"Lost Sessions - New York 1976" on CD presents a rare window into a pivotal creative moment for Joe Bataan, captured in mid-1970s New York. These sessions, long tucked away in the archives, reveal an artist bridging barrio soul, Latin funk and early disco-inflected grooves, with his unmistakable, emotionally charged vocals at the center. You can expect a warm, analog sound, tight horn arrangements, percussive drive and a streetwise lyrical sensibility that made Bataan a cult legend for both Latin and soul audiences. Issued by Ace Records, the CD is curated with care, offering a well-balanced track sequence, solid remastering from the original tapes where available, and detailed liner information when provided, ideal for collectors and new listeners alike.

Joe Bataan, often dubbed the "King of Latin Soul," emerged from the New York Latin and R&B scene in the late 1960s and quickly became a defining figure for the Fania era and beyond. Known for classic releases that blended boogaloo, soul, salsa and funk, he helped pioneer a hybrid sound that spoke to Nuyorican identity and urban life. Over the decades, his recordings have influenced generations of DJs, rare-groove collectors and Latin soul aficionados, and he remains a reference point whenever the evolution of Latin soul and barrio funk is discussed.

Ace Records, the label behind this edition, is a renowned British reissue specialist with a long track record of high-quality archival releases in soul, R&B, rock 'n' roll, funk and related genres. Their reputation rests on careful tape research, respectful remastering and well-researched booklets that treat historic recordings with the seriousness they deserve. By issuing "Lost Sessions - New York 1976," Ace once again underlines its commitment to preserving key moments of musical history and making them accessible to an international audience in audiophile-friendly form.
