Formed in Tampa, Florida in 1987 by guitarist Mike Davis, Nocturnus incorporated sci-fi and space themes into their music, creating a sound that was both unique and progressive. The band released their first album in 1990, entitled “The Key.” The album was a critical success and caught the attention of many within the metal community. Nocturnus’ sound fused traditional death metal tropes with avant-garde keyboard and synthesizer to create a futuristic and atmospheric sound.
