Five years since the release of the universally-acclaimed Omnivium, Germany's progressive metal masters Obscura are poised to return with their strongest and most dynamic release to date. The aptly-named Akroasis (Greek for "hearing" or "listening") draws on all the various elements of Obscura's signature sound and combines those qualities into a mind-blowing and cohesive whole. Produced by the band and V. Santura (Triptykon, Pestilence), Akroasis is eight songs diverse enough to serve as a near-comprehensive introduction to all of extreme metal. Packed to the gills with virtuosic musicianship, compelling themes, and airtight songwriting, Obscura will undoubtedly breathe new life into death metal, progressive metal and beyond. Includes bonus tracks.
Drums recorded between 11th and 15th of May 2015 at Dreamsound Studios, Munich, Germany. Guitars, bass, and vocals recorded between 25th of May and 25th of June 2015 at Woodshed Studios, Landshut, Germany. Mixed and mastered between 25th of June and 18th of July 2015. String ensemble on "Weltseele" engineered at Tonbrauerei, Berlin, Germany and Fountainhead HQ, Berlin, Germany. Track 9, "The Origin of Primal Expression" is a digital download / CD only bonus track. "Akroasis" is a CD by German technical death metal band Obscura, released through the renowned extreme music label Relapse Rec. On this album, Obscura refine their signature blend of virtuosic musicianship, complex song structures and atmospheric melodies into a coherent, forward-thinking work that appeals both to genre purists and progressive metal fans. The songs combine rapid-fire riffing, intricate bass lines and dynamic drumming with sophisticated harmonies and a dark, almost cosmic mood. Clear yet powerful production allows every instrument to shine, underlining the band's emphasis on precision and musical depth. Lyrically and conceptually, "Akroasis" explores philosophical and existential themes, reinforcing the album's intellectual character and giving the listener plenty to discover with repeated listens.

Obscura are regarded as one of the leading forces in modern technical death metal. Founded in Germany, the band has built an international reputation for their fusion of extreme metal, progressive elements and jazz-influenced virtuosity. Over the years, they have toured extensively, shared stages with some of the biggest names in extreme music and earned high critical praise for their tight live performances and sophisticated albums. Releases such as "Cosmogenesis" and "Omnivium" helped establish Obscura as innovators of the genre, while "Akroasis" is often seen as a mature statement that further cements their status as a benchmark band in technical and progressive death metal.

Relapse Rec. is one of the most influential independent labels in heavy and experimental music. Since the early 1990s, the company has specialized in discovering and supporting groundbreaking artists from genres such as death metal, grindcore, sludge, doom and beyond. Known for high production standards, carefully curated rosters and long-term collaborations with their bands, Relapse has played a key role in shaping the modern extreme music landscape. With "Akroasis," Relapse once again demonstrates its commitment to quality, presenting a release that is as demanding as it is rewarding, and offering fans a meticulously produced CD edition aimed at collectors and audiophiles alike.
