"Caress Of Steel" is a CD release by the Canadian rock band Rush, issued by the renowned label Mercury. Originally released in 1975, this album captures the band at a pivotal transitional moment, boldly moving from concise hard rock songs toward more complex, progressive compositions. The CD presents a dark, atmospheric sound with intricate guitar work, dynamic bass lines, and virtuosic drumming, complemented by expressive high-register vocals and thoughtful, often fantastical lyrics. While initially considered one of the band's more challenging and experimental works, "Caress Of Steel" later gained cult status among fans for its daring structures, extended suites, and immersive storytelling, making this CD essential for listeners who want to experience Rush's early evolution.

Musically, "Caress Of Steel" balances shorter, riff-driven tracks with multi-part epics that showcase the trio's technical precision and compositional ambition. Shifting time signatures, extended instrumental passages, and textural shifts--from heavy rock attacks to delicate, atmospheric sections--demonstrate a band pushing the boundaries of 1970s rock. The production emphasizes clarity and separation, allowing each instrument to breathe, while still preserving the raw, organic feel of a power trio performing at full intensity. On CD, the album's dynamic contrasts and layered arrangements come through with particular detail, making it a rewarding listen both for casual rock fans and audiophiles interested in classic progressive rock textures.

Rush are one of the most influential rock bands to emerge from Canada, known worldwide for their technical proficiency, conceptual albums, and long-term artistic integrity. Over their career, they achieved major international success, filling arenas and maintaining a loyal global fan base. They are widely recognized for their impact on progressive rock and hard rock, inspiring generations of musicians with their sophisticated song structures, complex rhythms, and intellectual lyrics. Their body of work spans decades, reflecting a constant evolution while retaining a distinctive, instantly recognizable sound that has earned them critical acclaim and enduring popularity.

The CD is released by Mercury, a historic label with a long tradition in rock, pop, and other contemporary genres. Mercury has been associated with numerous influential artists over the years and is known for high production standards, broad international distribution, and a catalogue that documents important chapters in popular music history. A Mercury release of this album underscores its place within the classic rock canon, offering a reliable, well-curated edition for collectors and new listeners alike.

Caress of Steel is the third studio album by Canadian rock band Rush, released on September 24, 1975.The album eventually became known as one of Rush's most obscure and overlooked recordings, consequently being considered under-rated by fans. I recommend.

This is a first light of progressive transformation from the hard rock outfit. The song "The Necromancer" is a masterpiece of the progressive rock genre!

Oh-la-la! The first prg-rock album of the great band, which unfortunately ended its existence. It's very interesting to watch the seeds sprout here, later blossoming in 2112, Farewell, Hemispheres ... I have always had great respect for this album. Try, if you missed it in your time, to catch up ...

Too much indulgent for its own good. Rush still had to find their style.

You all fans of Rush should get this record. It is one of their best albums in the 70's, undoubtedly. Rush has been a very influential progressive rock band and in this album has nice tracks, as Bastille Day, Necromancer, Lakeside Park.

Caress Of Steel is third album of Canadian rock group. It was released in the year 1975. First free songs are classic hard rock Rush tracks. Rest of album is prog oriented music. Album is not best, not top in Rush discography, but have place in fan collection.

One of my favourites. The music is remastered (The Rush Remasters series). The sound really gives you that "old feeling", yet you can hear everything perfectly. Every info from the original artwork seems to be included. The "starman" within the jewelcase tray is nice too - different colours in every release.
