Description:Beak is an album by Beak>, released in 2009. The album is a rock LP. -
Recorded live in one room with no overdubs or repair, only edits to create arrangements. All tracks were written over a 12 day session in SOA Studios, Bristol, England. Mastered at Optimum Mastering.
"Beak>" on LP is a hypnotic, analog-driven album by the experimental rock trio Beak>, a band co-founded by Geoff Barrow (Portishead) together with Billy Fuller and Will Young. The record unfolds a darkly atmospheric blend of krautrock, post-punk and minimal electronica: repetitive motorik grooves, deep bass lines, distorted synths and eerie, reverb-soaked vocals come together to create a cinematic, almost dystopian soundscape. Each track evolves slowly and organically, building tension through subtle shifts rather than obvious hooks, making this LP ideal both for focused listening and for immersive late-night sessions. The production deliberately retains a raw, live-in-the-studio character, capturing the spontaneous interplay between the musicians and giving the album an urgent, unpolished charm that stands out clearly on vinyl.

As a band, Beak> have gained a strong reputation in contemporary alternative music for their uncompromising aesthetic and their powerful live performances. Formed around 2009, they have released several acclaimed albums and EPs and have become a reference point for modern krautrock-influenced bands, often praised for their ability to channel the spirit of groups like Can or Neu! while sounding thoroughly modern. Their work has drawn attention far beyond the underground, in part due to Barrow's legacy with Portishead and their consistently strong output that appeals to fans of experimental rock, electronic music and soundtrack-like atmospheres.

The LP format emphasizes the depth and physicality of the sound: long, immersive tracks fully unfold across the sides of the record, and the medium highlights the warmth of the low end and the subtle textures in the midrange. "Beak>" on vinyl is not merely a collection of songs, but a cohesive listening journey that rewards complete playthrough. The minimalist artwork and packaging typically mirror the band's aesthetic: stark, mysterious and slightly unsettling, matching the music's mood.

The album is released by Pias UK/Raw Canvas Records, an imprint connected to PIAS (Play It Again Sam), one of the most important independent music companies in Europe. PIAS has built its name by supporting boundary-pushing artists across alternative, indie, electronic and experimental genres, working closely with labels and bands that value artistic freedom over commercial formulas. Raw Canvas Records fits within this ethos by providing a platform for distinctive, left-field music that might not find a home within the mainstream industry. With this LP, Pias UK/Raw Canvas Records once again underlines its role as a curator of adventurous sounds, ensuring high pressing standards, careful mastering for vinyl and a presentation that respects the artistic vision of Beak>.
