Description:Photosynthesis by Dave · Jon Savage Ball, released 18 August 2016, includes the following tracks: "ATM#2", "Liquid Skyliner - Zeitgeist", "The Process" and more. This version of Photosynthesis comes as a 1xCD. -
Dave Ball (Soft Cell, The Grid) and Jon Savage present Photosynthesis. They explain how Photosynthesis developed: "We started composing some quasi pop/classical pieces that gradually morphed and evolved into one, hour-long piece. Via digital recording and processing of vintage analog sound sources (i.e. mini Moog, Sequential Circuits, Prophet 5 synthesizers etc.) the piece gradually took shape. The title Photosynthesis was re-appropriated from the botanical process. Sitting in the garden surrounded by trees and plants on a sunny day, the idea of organisms using sunlight to synthesize nutrients from carbon dioxide and water became an inspiration to us. This idea, juxtaposed with mankind's destruction of the planet through pollution and war gave us the inspiration to compose this soundscape." Comes in a beautiful six-panel digipak, cloaked in exquisite flora art.

"Photosynthesis" is an atmospheric CD release by Ball Dave & Savage Jon that explores immersive, slowly unfolding soundscapes. Built around evolving textures, subtle harmonies and a strong sense of space, the album invites listeners into a deep, almost cinematic listening experience. Layers of drones, organic tones and carefully sculpted electronic elements create a meditative flow that rewards both focused attention and background listening. Each track feels like a chapter in a continuous journey, with dynamics that move from quiet introspection to expansive, tension-laden passages without ever losing coherence.

Musically, the CD leans towards experimental ambient and dark, evocative sound design, appealing to listeners who appreciate detailed production and mood-driven composition rather than traditional verse-chorus structures. The interplay between Ball Dave & Savage Jon is central: their collaboration balances abstract sound exploration with an underlying musicality, resulting in a work that feels meticulously composed yet alive and unpredictable. "Photosynthesis" is ideal for late-night listening, creative work, or anyone looking for an immersive sonic environment that unfolds with each repeat listen.

Ball Dave & Savage Jon appear here as sound-driven artists with a clear focus on atmosphere, timbre and tension. Their work on "Photosynthesis" highlights a shared sensibility for long-form composition, patient development and the careful placement of every detail in the stereo field. Rather than foregrounding virtuoso performance, they prioritize sound architecture and emotional resonance, positioning this album firmly in the realm of artists who treat the studio itself as an instrument.

The CD is released by Cold Spring Rec., a label known for its commitment to darker, more experimental corners of sound. With a catalogue that often embraces ambient, industrial and other boundary-pushing genres, Cold Spring Rec. has built a reputation for carefully curated, artist-driven releases. Their emphasis on strong visual presentation and high production standards makes "Photosynthesis" not only an intriguing listening experience but also a collector-friendly physical edition for those who still value the CD format.
