| Description: | Double vinyl LP pressing in gatefold jacket. In true Enslaved fashion, the Bergen voyagers' 16th album, Heimdal, is both a departure and a communion with roots forged over three decades ago in the turbulent birth throes of Norway's black metal scene. Founded in 1991 by the then precociously young Ivar Bj?rnson and Grutle Kjellson, Enslaved were determined to set out on a different course from their Satanic, church-burning peers, turning their attention towards Viking lore and writing the majority of the lyrics for their 1994 debut album, Vikingligr Veldi, in Icelandic for it's proximity to Old Norse.Released in a gatefold sleeve, with 4-panel lyrics Insert."Heimdal" is a full-length LP by the Norwegian band Enslaved, released by the renowned metal label Nuclear Blast. With this album, Enslaved once again bridge the gap between progressive metal, black metal roots and atmospheric soundscapes, weaving mythological and philosophical themes into complex, multi-layered compositions. "Heimdal" stands out through its dynamic interplay of harsh and clean vocals, intricate guitar work, spacious keyboards and organic, powerful drumming. The songs are structured like journeys: they build patiently, shift between dark intensity and melodic clarity, and create an immersive listening experience that rewards repeated plays on vinyl. The production is detailed yet dynamic, allowing the LP format to reveal depth, warmth and nuances in the mix that digital formats can easily flatten.
Lyrically, "Heimdal" turns to Norse mythology and existential reflection, using the figure of Heimdal as a gateway to questions of perception, thresholds, and transformation. Enslaved's modern progressive approach gives these themes a fresh, contemporary feel: odd time signatures, long-form compositions and adventurous arrangements sit alongside memorable motifs and powerful riffs. As a vinyl release, this LP is ideal for listeners who value the ritual of listening: turning the record over between sides, following the natural ebb and flow of the track sequence, and experiencing the album as a coherent whole instead of isolated tracks.
Enslaved are one of the most influential bands to emerge from the Norwegian extreme metal scene of the early 1990s. Over the decades they have evolved from raw, Viking-influenced black metal into a distinctive blend of progressive metal, black metal and psychedelic rock elements, consistently pushing boundaries while maintaining a clear musical identity. They are widely regarded as pioneers of progressive extreme metal and have received lasting recognition within the international metal community for their ambitious albums and intense live performances.
The LP is released by Nuclear Blast, one of the leading and longest-standing labels in heavy music. Founded in Germany, Nuclear Blast has built a global reputation for its high-quality releases in metal and adjacent genres, supporting both legendary bands and innovative new artists. Known for meticulous production standards, carefully curated rosters and collector-friendly physical editions, the label has become a hallmark for fans who seek reliably strong releases on vinyl and other formats. |
