Description:In the 1970s era of country rock, the Texas Re-Cord Company stood out from the crowd. It was a time when country music and blues and redneck rock all collided with west-coast hippie-ness. But the TRC was based in Bulverde near San Antonio, where Augie Meyers' Western Head Band added a good dose of Tex-Mex dance hall music and western- swing polka to the mix. Meyers was, and is, a lanky, bearded, laid-back character with a waist-length pigtail and a reputation in San Antone music that's longer even than that. Meyers' Texas Re-Cord label issued some thirty singles and seven albums between 1975 and 1980, and much of the music has not been reissued since. This 26 track CD puts that right. The Texas Re-Cord Co. is â??finally in lights,â?? to quote one of their LP titles. - .. TONK HIGHWAY WITH AUGIE MEYERS & THE TEXAS RE-CORD C

"On The Honky Tonk Highway With Augie Meyers & The" on CD is a stylistically rich compilation that celebrates the hard-driving, barroom-tested sound of classic honky tonk and roots country. Centered around the unmistakable Tex-Mex-flavored keyboard and groove aesthetic associated with Augie Meyers, this disc leads the listener straight onto the neon-lit backroads where country, Texas dance-hall music and raw roadhouse energy meet. Expect twanging guitars, shuffling backbeats, weeping steel, and a down-to-earth storytelling tone that evokes jukeboxes, long highways, and late-night diners. The selection is curated to offer a continuous "highway trip" feeling, alternating between upbeat floor-fillers and more reflective, slow-burning tracks, always staying true to an earthy, traditional sound that fans of classic honky tonk and American roots music will appreciate.
The CD is released by BEAR FAMIL, a renowned German reissue and archival label known for its carefully researched productions, excellent sound quality, and historically oriented compilations. BEAR FAMIL specializes in roots music, country, rock 'n' roll, rockabilly, and adjacent styles, often rescuing rare recordings from obscurity and presenting them with audiophile mastering and detailed documentation. With this background, "On The Honky Tonk Highway With Augie Meyers & The" can be seen as part of their ongoing mission to preserve and highlight significant strands of Americana, focusing here on the straight-from-the-barroom honky tonk tradition and kindred sounds. The result is a CD that not only entertains, but also fits into a broader, lovingly curated musical history.
