"Secrets (2CD Gatefold Packaging)" is an expanded CD edition of The Human League's 2001 studio album, presented here in a deluxe 2-disc set by Demon / Edsel. Housed in an attractive gatefold package, this release combines the original album with a generous selection of bonus material (such as single edits, remixes or B-sides, depending on the configuration), offering a deeper look into one of the band's most overlooked but creatively rich periods. The focus is on sleek, melodic synth-pop with a modern electronic edge, staying true to The Human League's trademark blend of catchy hooks, cool vocals and futuristic sound design.
Musically, "Secrets" continues the group's fascination with synth textures, programmed beats and layered vocal harmonies. The album moves between club-ready tracks, mid-tempo pop songs and more atmospheric electronic pieces, creating a varied but coherent listening experience. The second CD complements the main album by highlighting alternative versions and extended mixes, allowing listeners to explore the nuances of the production and the evolution of the songs. The gatefold packaging underlines the collector's character of this edition, with its visually appealing presentation that makes the CD feel like a carefully curated artefact rather than a simple reissue.
The Human League are pioneers of British synth-pop and new wave, formed in the late 1970s in Sheffield. They achieved global fame in the early 1980s with albums like "Dare" and iconic singles including "Don't You Want Me", "Love Action (I Believe in Love)" and "(Keep Feeling) Fascination", which helped define the sound of the era and influenced generations of electronic pop artists. Known for their combination of icy electronics, strong melodies and distinctive male-female vocal interplay, The Human League have built a lasting legacy that stretches from the early days of drum machines and analogue synths to contemporary electronic pop.
The manufacturer Demon / Edsel is renowned for high-quality reissues, catalogue editions and expanded versions of classic albums. Specialising in carefully remastered releases, bonus-track editions and collector-friendly packaging, Demon / Edsel works closely with archival material and existing masters to present albums in definitive, often expanded forms. This focus on sound quality, extensive track listings and thoughtful presentation makes their editions particularly attractive for fans and collectors who want to rediscover key works of pop history in a comprehensive and respectful way. | | | Cover: |
