The second release in Tapete's great series of radio sessions are the collected BBC recordings of Comet Gain, the rough diamond of the International Pop Underground, the indie punk Monkees, the noise pop collective Numero Uno! Radio Sessions BBC 1996 - 2011 contains three John Peel sessions from 1996 and 1997 as well as a Marc Riley session from 2011. One thing is for sure: a world in which such a great, anarchic, idiosyncratic band, simply perfect in it's imperfection, is invited to Abbey Road Studios for radio sessions by the country's biggest broadcaster, among others, can't be that bad. All those who are already fans of Comet Gain should get this album, and everyone else too.
1 to 3: Session 1: BBC Radio One / John Peel, recorded 17th March 1996. 4 to 7: Session 2: BBC Radio One / John Peel, recorded 10th September 1996. 8 to 11: Session 3: BBC Radio One / John Peel, recorded 11th November 1997. 12 to 15: Session 4: BBC 6 Music / Marc Riley, recorded 30th August 2011. The correct titles of tracks 4 and 5 are "Strip Polka" and "Can't Behave". Session 2 may have been broadcast while John Peel was the stand-in presenter of Mark Radcliffe's show.
"Radio Sessions (BBC 1996 - 2011)" by Comet Gain on CD is a vital document of one of Britain's most beloved underground indie bands at their rawest and most immediate. Spanning fifteen years of BBC recordings, this collection captures the group in different creative phases, from scruffy, jangling early sessions to more sophisticated, soulful and punk-inflected later material. The radio setting strips the songs down to their emotional core: choppy guitars, organs and tambourines collide with heartfelt, literate lyrics about love, politics and everyday life on the margins. The sound is energetic, unpolished and intimate, giving fans a sense of being in the studio with the band while they re-imagine album tracks and try out songs in exclusive versions. For newcomers, it works as a perfect crash course in Comet Gain's world: shambling indie pop, Northern soul hints, C86 spirit and garage-punk urgency intertwine into something immediately distinctive.

Comet Gain, formed in the early 1990s in the UK, have become cult heroes of the indie scene thanks to their combination of sharp, often political storytelling and a deep love for classic pop, soul and punk. Over numerous albums and EPs they have influenced a wide circle of bands and listeners who treasure their mix of DIY ethics, emotional honesty and literary flair. Their records are often cited in fanzines and music press as hidden gems of modern indie pop, and the group has built a loyal international following through constant reinvention while staying true to their underground roots. "Radio Sessions (BBC 1996 - 2011)" underlines just how consistent and inspired their songwriting has remained across decades.

The CD is released by TAPETE / INDIGO, an established independent force in the German and European music landscape. Tapete is known for carefully curated releases that put artistic integrity ahead of short-term trends, often working with bands and songwriters who cultivate long-term careers rather than quick hits. In cooperation with distribution partner INDIGO, these releases reach a wide network of record shops and listeners who value physical formats and well-crafted albums.
