Made in Poland."Venice 20" is a special CD edition that celebrates the enduring resonance of Fennesz's landmark album "Venice", originally released on Touch in the mid-2000s and now revisited in an expanded, remastered form for its anniversary. On this edition, the Austrian sound artist Christian Fennesz further refines his signature blend of processed guitar, granular textures and shimmering electronics into a deeply immersive listening experience. Warm, slowly evolving harmonies meet fractured noise, distant melodies and field-recording-like atmospheres, creating an abstract yet emotionally charged sound world that feels as fluid and enigmatic as the city that gives the album its name. The tracks move between quiet, contemplative passages and dense, billowing walls of sound, inviting focused headphone listening as well as repeated exploration of the album's many sonic layers.
Stylistically, "Venice 20" stands at the intersection of ambient, experimental, and modern electronic composition, but it always remains highly personal and melodic at its core. Fennesz uses his guitar as a primary sound source, reshaping it beyond recognition through digital processing, reverb and distortion until it becomes a glowing harmonic cloud. Small melodic motifs appear and dissolve, rhythmic pulses emerge only to fade back into texture, and the overall arc of the album unfolds like a slow tidal movement. This expanded anniversary version adds previously hard-to-find or unreleased material from the era, offering a fuller picture of the "Venice" sessions and how they fit into Fennesz's overall body of work on Touch.
Christian Fennesz is one of the most influential figures in contemporary experimental and electronic music. Since the late 1990s he has helped redefine what the electric guitar can be in a digital context, merging noise, glitch and pop-leaning harmonies into a unique language that has inspired an entire generation of sound artists. His breakthrough album "Endless Summer" is widely regarded as a modern classic of experimental electronic music, and subsequent works have consolidated his reputation as a pioneer of richly textured, emotionally resonant sound design. Fennesz has also collaborated with numerous key artists from the avant-garde and independent scenes, further underlining his importance as a central figure in the development of experimental ambient and electro-acoustic music.
The CD is released by Touch, a long-standing, highly respected independent label known for its carefully curated catalogue of experimental, electronic, and sound-based works. Since the 1980s, Touch has provided a platform for artists who explore the boundaries of sound, often presenting their music in aesthetically distinctive editions with great attention to artwork, photography and overall presentation. The label has been instrumental in bringing many pioneering works of ambient, field recording and experimental composition to a wider audience, and its collaboration with Fennesz is one of the cornerstones of its catalogue. With "Venice 20", Touch once again underlines its reputation for high-quality productions that combine sonic innovation with strong artistic identity. | | | No. of tracks: |
