RATATAT

Ratatat is a unique and innovative electronic music duo consisting of guitarist Mike Stroud and synthesizer player Evan Mast. Since their formation in 2001, Ratatat has continued to pave their way in the electronic music world by blending rock, hip-hop, and classical music to create one-of-a-kind instrumental tracks that have garnered worldwide recognition and acclaim. The duo’s sound is characterized by their signature guitar riffs and electronically produced beats, creating a blend of organic and synthetic sounds that are both captivating and original. Their songs often contain complex and intricate melodies, each unique in its own way, yet all unmistakably Ratatat. Ratatat has released six studio albums and several EPs, with each album showcasing the duo's ever-evolving sound. Their self-titled debut album, released in 2004, features tracks that showcase Mast's mastery of the synthesizer, such as “Seventeen Years” and “Germany to Germany,” which both have a slow and moody atmosphere. Their sophomore album, “Classics,” released in 2006, highlights Stroud's intricate and melodic guitar riffs, which can be heard in songs such as “Loud Pipes” and “Wildcat.” “LP3,” released in 2008, marks a departure from their previous albums' sound, consisting mostly of chilled-out instrumentals that range from funky to dreamy. Their fourth album, "LP4," released in 2010, continues to display their ability to create unique, compelling music. With tracks such as "Drugs" and "Neckbrace," Ratatat delves deeper into their experimental side, combining Eastern-influenced melodies with their signature instrumentation. Their fifth album, “Magnifique,” released in 2015, is arguably their most ambitious album yet, featuring a full range of soundscapes and textures that blend seamlessly with their traditional guitar and synth-driven sound. Their latest offering came out in 2021 with the release of “Drift,” a return to their distinctive sound, featuring guitar riffs, driving beats, and soaring synthesizers. The album delivers a range of tracks, from the dreamy “Solitude” to the energetic “Magna.” Ratatat has been an influence on many other musicians across various genres, from electronic to rock. They’ve left their mark on a generation of artists and music lovers, with their inventive and unique sound that continues to evolve with each release. Finally, Ratatat continues to inspire and push the boundaries of electronic music with their experimental and innovative approach, challenging the norms and conventions of what is considered pop music.
