Description:
Digitally remastered and expanded edition. A hugely successful, award-winning songwriter, singer and musician, BA Robertson enjoyed his most commercially successful period while signed to Asylum Records in the late '70s and early '80s.. During that period, BA was rarely out of the charts with hit singles. Amazingly, BA's Asylum recordings have never officially been reissued on CD - until now!. Compiled by the artist himself with remastered sound, new sleeve-notes by Eddie Harrison and each reissue boasting numerous bonus tracks, BA's Asylum albums have finally been treated to the reissue programme they deserve. Initial Success was the first of BA's albums for Asylum. First issued in 1980, it was promoted by the hit singles 'Bang Bang' (No. 2), 'Knocked It Off' (No. 8), 'To Be Or Not To Be' (No. 9) and 'Kool In The Kaftan' (No. 17), all of which helped propel the album to No. 32 on the UK charts. Among the wealth of bonus tracks are three non-LP flipsides, a unique interpretation of 'Bang Bang' by the Portsmouth Sinfonia and three recordings captured at a rare live performance by BA at Edinburgh Festival in 2004.
Recorded at Mayfair Sound London.
Mastered at Utopia.

"Initial Success (Remastered + Expanded Edition)" on CD is a deluxe reissue of BA Robertson's breakthrough album, presenting his sharp, melodic pop-rock with renewed clarity and punch. This edition offers a carefully remastered sound that highlights the witty lyrics, hook-laden choruses and tight arrangements that made the original record stand out in the late 1970s/early 1980s UK pop landscape. Fans can expect an album full of clever storytelling, radio-friendly melodies and a distinctive blend of rock energy and pop sensibility that showcases Robertson's knack for memorable songwriting.
The expanded nature of this CD means that, in addition to the core album, listeners typically get a broader view of the era through bonus tracks such as single versions, B-sides or rare cuts (where available), making this release particularly appealing for collectors and devoted fans. The detailed booklet (where included) often features period photos, archival materials and authoritative liner notes that place the album in its historical context and illuminate the creative process behind the songs.
BA Robertson is a Scottish singer-songwriter and musician best known for his smart, often humorous pop songs and for his successful work as a writer for other artists. While he enjoyed UK chart recognition under his own name, he also built a respected career behind the scenes, contributing to hits for others and working across music, television and theatre. His blend of literate lyrics, accessible melodies and understated charisma made him a distinctive figure in British pop of his time.
Cherry Red, the label behind this edition, is an independent UK record company with a strong reputation for high-quality reissues and carefully curated catalogue projects. Since the late 1970s, Cherry Red has specialized in bringing important, overlooked or cult albums back into circulation, often with improved sound, bonus material and extensive documentation. Collectors value the label for its attention to detail, respect for original artwork and commitment to preserving musical heritage across genres including pop, rock, punk, new wave and beyond. With "Initial Success (Remastered + Expanded Edition)", Cherry Red once again demonstrates its strength in delivering definitive versions of classic and cult albums on CD.
