 | | Description: | â?
- Recorded by Janne Hansson at Atlantis Studios, Hans Stenlund, Björn Yttling and Gustav Lindelöw at Ingrid Studios and Joakim Åhlund at Chimp Limbs Studio.
Mastered by Henke Jonsson at Masters Of Audio and Alex Gordon at Abbey Road Studios (A1, B3)"Phantom Island" is an LP by the artist Smile, released by the manufacturer CHIMP LIMB. This vinyl album invites the listener into an atmospheric sound world that evokes images of remote coastlines, nocturnal city lights, and introspective journeys. Across its tracks, "Phantom Island" weaves together melodic motifs, subtle rhythmic layers, and carefully sculpted soundscapes, creating a listening experience that works both as an emotional narrative and as an immersive backdrop for focused listening. The LP format underscores the album's conceptual character: side A and side B feel like two chapters of the same story, inviting you to listen from start to finish rather than jumping between tracks.
Musically, "Phantom Island" lives from contrasts: gentle, floating passages alternate with more driving, beat-oriented sections; sparse, almost minimal arrangements open up into dense, cinematic climaxes. This tension between intimacy and expansiveness makes the record suitable both for late-night sessions on headphones and for being played as a centerpiece in a living-room setup. The production emphasizes warmth and depth, taking advantage of vinyl's strengths with a full low end and a detailed, but never harsh, high-frequency range. The artwork and packaging (depending on the specific edition) complement the musical theme of an elusive, dreamlike island, turning the LP into a collectible object for fans of carefully crafted records.
Smile, the artist behind "Phantom Island," is presented here as a project focused on coherent, album-oriented work rather than single-driven releases. The music on this LP highlights compositional care and sonic detail, suggesting a background in thoughtful studio production and a preference for long-form storytelling through sound. While concrete milestones or chart positions are not documented here, "Phantom Island" itself stands as a calling card for Smile's aesthetic: emotional, atmospheric, and deliberately paced, aiming more at longevity on the turntable than at short-term trends.
The LP is manufactured by CHIMP LIMB, a label and producer known for putting strong emphasis on the physical quality of their releases. CHIMP LIMB places importance on robust pressings, appealing cover design, and collector-friendly editions, often catering to listeners who value the tactile and visual aspects of vinyl as much as the sound. With "Phantom Island," CHIMP LIMB underlines its commitment to artists and projects that think in terms of complete albums and immersive concepts, making this LP an interesting choice for collectors who appreciate both musical depth and well-crafted physical media. | | | Manufacturer No.: |
