 | | Description: | Wayne Shorter (born in Newark, New Jersey, on
August 25, 1933, he is 85 at this writing) made his
debut as a leader with the LP presented here, which
was appropriately titled Introducing Wayne Shorter.
Shorter came to prominence in the late 1950s as a
member of â??and eventually primary composer for
â?? Art Blakeyâ??s Jazz Messengers. In the 1960s, he
went on to join Miles Davisâ??s Second Great Quintet,
and from there he co-founded the jazz fusion band
Weather Report. He has recorded over 20 albums
as a bandleader. Shorter can still be heard here
in the post-bop style â??more akin to the music he
performed during that same period with Blakeyâ??s
Messengers. Joining him in the front line is his
Messengers colleague, trumpeter Lee Morgan, while
the rhythm section consists of the Wynton Kelly Trio,
whose members were all working with Miles Davis
at that time.

Front cover photo by Francis Wolff"Introducing Wayne Shorter" is a landmark LP that captures the emergence of one of jazz's most visionary saxophonists at the very beginning of his recording career. Recorded in the late 1950s, this album showcases Wayne Shorter's early compositional voice and his already distinctive tenor sound: probing, lyrical and harmonically adventurous. The tracks balance engaging melodies with sophisticated harmonic progressions, offering a compelling portrait of a young artist who would soon become a central figure in modern jazz. As an LP, this edition emphasises warm, detailed analog sound, making it an ideal format for listeners who want to experience the natural depth and dynamics of an acoustic jazz ensemble.
Wayne Shorter, born in 1933 in Newark, New Jersey, is widely regarded as one of the greatest saxophonists and composers in jazz history. Over his long career he played pivotal roles with Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, the Miles Davis Second Great Quintet and the fusion supergroup Weather Report, while also leading a long series of groundbreaking albums under his own name. His compositions such as "Footprints", "Nefertiti" and "Infant Eyes" have become modern jazz standards, performed and recorded around the world. Across decades he received numerous major awards, including multiple Grammy Awards, and remained an influential force in improvisation and composition until the end of his life. "Introducing Wayne Shorter" allows listeners to trace the roots of this extraordinary artistic journey.
